Alaska - Blue Bergie Bit
While large pieces of ice broken off ("calved") from glaciers are called icebergs, smaller chunks are called "bergie bits." Whatever size, the ice is often a stunning shade of blue. This is due to the intense compression within the glacier which forces all air out of the ice. Once the ice begins to melt, air returns and the ice turns white. This bergie bit was photographed floating in Tracy Arm, a 30-mile long fjord just south of Juneau.

Gallery-Formal (pictured above)
This is a stunning presentation! A black "stroke" around the image gives a "formal" feel, and also gives the visual impression of a mat, without the extra expense of a mat. The image subject and photographer name are in a subdued shade of gray, so that the viewer's attention is not drawn from the image.
Gallery-formal images are available "frame-ready" --mounted on 3/16-inch foamboard--to fit standard 8 X 10 or 11 X 14-inch frames. They are also available professionally framed and ready to hang. The frame used is a black aluminum Nielsen profile no. 11, using museum-quality, distortion-free plexiglass. Even the hanging wire comes attached, so the image is truly "ready to hang!" This is the same framing package we use on images in our own home.

Gallery-Matted (pictured above)
This is how galleries often require images for display. There is a single white mat. We use a white mat with a black core so that the bevel of the mat window is in black, adding a subtle extra offset for the image. We choose to use a narrow mat --1 3/4 to 2-inches, depending on the size of the print--to maximize the amount of image displayed. Gallery-matted images are available "frame-ready"(mounted on 3/16-inch foamboard, ready to insert in a standard-sized frame). They are also available professionally framed and ready to hang.
